THE WORKSHOP

Girls in South Africa often feel fear, shame, embarrassment, lack of confidence when they are on their periods during school days. And it is difficult to receive a constant monthly supply of pads from people so our team are looking for alternative ways to help these girls when they are on their menstrual cycles. It is estimated that a woman will dispose 16,800 pads or tampon in her lifetime.

Washable pads are not only environmental-friendly but also saves money.  One single pad can sustain a girl for well over a year as long as they wash it regularly. We have held 3 workshops at the Stony Brook School, inviting students to participate in sewing reusable pads. Students can earn community service hours, learn more about these girl's struggles and engage in a more personal level. You can help us by donating the kits and required fabrics and the community service councils will help to teach the process to the student volunteers.
